Federer's class shows in final

Roger Federer won the Australian Open after beating Fernando Gonzalez in straight sets in the final. This is Federer's tenth Grand slam title and I can see that number increasing before the turn of the year especially at Wimbledon and the US Open.

I think Gonzalez's failure to take advantage when he broke Federer's serve and with two set points was the turning point of that set if not the match. That was a very good chance for Gonzalez which he should have converted but credit to Federer he played well to break back Gonzalez's serve and then went on to win the set in a tie-break.

In the end Federer won the tournament without dropping a single set and that's remarkable in itself. Although Gonzalez was broken once in both sets two and three you could see that Federer was in control throughout the match.

The next task that awaits Federer now is to wrestle the French Open title from Rafael Nadal. I don't think that will be an easy task at all and it will make for a fascinating French Open.

I agree that Gonzales lost his chance in the first set. He had two set points and failed to capitalise.

He had a shocking string of faults on his first serves which meant that a large amount of pressure was off Federer. Kudo's to Federer he is a great player and showed true humility in the presentation.

Yep, I agree to all of the above. Federer is really a fighter and has got all it takes to be the world number one. His skill is way way above the rest.

It looks like he is gonna rule for quite sometime. It's amazing how he neutralized the ferocious force of Gonzo and how he made Gonzo clock the miles at the baseline. Gonzo might have clocked 50 000km(just kidding) and that's why he was totally exhausted at the end of it all.

But one thing Gonzo gave a brave fight which was only overcome because Federer is the best in his own class that has no other students.

Some people have intimated that had Gonzalez won the first set, he would have caused a bit of trouble for Roger. All I can say to them is that remember that last year Baghdatis took the first set but went on to lose in four sets. But Baghdatis did what nobody could not do in the whole Australian Open this year - take a set off Federer.
