Russia, Qatar hosts 2018, 2022 World Cups

Russia and Qatar have won the right to host the FIFA World Cup in 2018 and 2022 respectively.

I am not surprised by Russia winning the right to host the tournament because I always thought it was going to be between them and the joint Spain/Portugal bid.

But being the first time for the World Cup to go to Russia gave them an upper hand.

I am a bit surprised though by Qatar's win.

Qatar is hosting the 2011 Asian Cup in January and I thought that the reason it was moved to January was because it was going to be too hot in June/July.

So if Qatar can host the World in the June/July time, why cant the country host the Asian Cup in the same month and see how things go.

This will be be the first time the World Cup has been hosted in the Middle East which I think is good to go new regions.

The results mean that the FIFA 2026 will be in North America, South America, Africa or Oceania.

For Australia in the Asian region our next chance to bid for the Cup will be in 2034 unless if the bidding rules change.
