Big guns create A-League interest

There has been a lot of interest in the 2011/12 A-League season so far because of the return of Harry Kewell and Brett Emerton to Australian club football scene.

The protracted Kewell talks to join Melbourne Victory made for some for some interesting discussions on a lot of Australian football forums like this one.

Then came the sacking of Branco Culina by the Newcastle Jets in the final week that took a lot of people by surprise.

The increased interest in the league could also see an increase in online betting as people try to follow the league that way and also tipping as well as huge attendances in the stands.

I am looking forward to the new A-League season and its good that this year there is an even number of teams and so every team will play in each round.

Its rather unfortunate though that the North Queensland Fury had to fold but I hope that next time the A-League will introduce two teams to make it twelve and not go to eleven again.

I also quite like the idea of regional matches because its good to take football to some people who otherwise could only follow the league on television.

Lets hope there are going to be lots of quality goals to match the off season interest.

The Jets will put their problems aside as they face a Melbourne Heart team aiming for the finals.
